Electrical & Computer Engineering Research

The discipline of Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering at JCU undertakes research in the major streams of Electrical and Computer Engineering including Power Systems, Communications, Digital Signal Processing, Electronics, Computer Networks and Engineering Education. Many research areas are specifically related to JCU's tropical location, for example: the effect of Tropical rain on satellite communications using a DSP controlled receiver, microwaves for control of cutting blade height on sugar cane harvesters, electrical material properties of Australian essential oils, remote and renewable electrical power supply systems, communication using SWER lines, acoustic tracking of underwater mammals and high capacity radio links for communication on the Great Barrier Reef. An increasing number of these projects involve collaboration with local industries and research organizations including Ergon Energy and the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS).
