JCU Motor Sport
Formula SAE Team
JCU Motorsport is a newly formed venture, involving both 2 nd and 3 rd year Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Students from James Cook University. JCU Motorsport has several objectives:
- Form JCU's Inaugural Formula SAE Team
- Spend the rest of this year and next year designing and building a competitive car with the scope to compete in the 2006 competition
- Establish an infrastructure that allows following years to build on our research and become increasingly competitive
- Establish on going sponsorship relationships with local and national businesses.
- Promote James Cook University and demonstrate its facilities and students capabilities.
- To win the Formula SAE competition within 3 years
JCU Motorsport is a self supported organisation that relies on sponsorship to achieve its objectives. Our team is made up of enthusiastic and resourceful students who are all keen to produce an outstanding first entrant and make JCU a common name among the SAE ranks. The project is currently under examination for integration into the ongoing studies of our undergraduate mechanical students, including thesis subjects and the various mechanical design subjects throughout the degree. If we are able to implement this step, it will greatly increase the time available to commit to the competition.
Team background:
There are various talented individuals involved in the JCU Motorsport whose skills and experience should prove invaluable to achieving the success of our goals. We have the benefit of drawing on the following experience of some of our mature aged students:
- Several years experience working in a high performance mechanical workshop. Knowledge includes but is not limited to Engine Management Systems, Design and Integration of Turbo charging Systems, Suspension, and numerous other automotive related areas.
- An international student who brings experience in racing and modification to the team from Malaysia.
- A Qualified Fitter and Turner
- A Qualified Diesel Fitter.
Everyone in JCU Motorsport has contributing characteristics that I believe will make us stand out as one of the best first year entrants the competition has ever seen.
